GMF announces significant investment and future growth plans
GMF Motor Factors Ltd, the largest independent distributor of vehicle components and garage equipment in South Wales, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, has announced a significant investment into the business from HgCapital.
Former shareholder Directors Adrian and Ian McNally announced the investment and stated their excitement at seeing the company being able to accelerate its branch network expansion and further strengthen its position as one of the foremost distributors in the UK automotive aftermarket.
Adrian McNally said: “The GMF journey has been a fantastic one so far, with the company trebling in size over the past 7 to 8 years, and with the investment in from HgCapital there’s no reason why this cannot be achieved again.”
Ian McNally said: “GMF will remain a committed and active member of The Parts Alliance, and with the experienced GMF management team of Steve Davies and Wyn Jones continuing in their roles, but now also becoming Board Directors, the GMF business is in excellent hands.”
Charles Jonathan, who has been involved as a consultant in recent years has been appointed Managing Director, and will be an invaluable member of the new GMF Board.
Established in 1995, GMF has an excellent reputation in the industry as a forward thinking and progressive company. Wyn Jones said: “GMF has always strived to be at the forefront of industry change. HgCapital’s investment allows us to build upon the success the GMF team has helped to create over the years and continue to expand our distribution network.”
HgCapital has assets under management of over £3.8 billion for some of the world’s leading institutional and private investors. HgCapital has a strong interest in the automotive aftermarket and are experts in investing and growing successful businesses and creating industry champions.
Steve Davies said: “HgCapital choose to invest in businesses with market leading positions. It aims to grow and scale these businesses, either organically within existing markets or through acquisitions. With Hg, we have put a framework in place for an exciting future which we can shape together.”
Parts Alliance colleagues, CES (UK) Ltd, Allparts Automotive Ltd and SC Motor Factors are also part of the HgCapital investment portfolio.
Steve Fulford, chairman of The Parts Alliance, said: “The announcement of investment into GMF Motor Factors is yet another boost for The Parts Alliance.
“It is the fourth member of The Parts Alliance to be invested in by HgCapital since August and highlights the strength and growth taking place in the automotive aftermarket.
“Together as a group, and as individual businesses, we are a success story that continues to grow. We’re developing and extending our already comprehensive coverage and building a collective professional workforce and body of expertise that is outshone by no-one.
“The announcement underlines further The Parts Alliance’s leading position within the sector, which gives us great confidence going into 2013.”
GMF, Allparts, CES and SC Motor Factors will retain their own regional identities and workforces. They will now begin working together more closely and concentrate on growing the coverage of The Parts Alliance.
Established in 1995 in Neath, South Wales, GMF strived to achieve one goal; customer service, stocking and delivering top quality parts through a dedicated ‘on demand’ delivery service to workshops and fitting stations in the local area.
The business quickly established itself as a leading supplier in the area, realising early on that exceeding customer expectations in all areas of service was critical and quickly extended product ranges and stock.
By 2000 the company had opened additional branches in Llanelli, Merthyr Tydfil, Swansea and Bridgend and were becoming a real force in the South Wales automotive aftermarket, winning the Autotrade Awards in London in March of that year.
The company continued its strong growth and in November 2003 was invited to join the UK’s premium trading group The Parts Alliance.
Over the next nine years the company went from strength to strength, and now trades from 14 branches covering South Wales, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire with a large head office facility containing integrated training and conference facilities. GMF employs nearly 250 staff serving more than 3000 customers through a fleet of 140 plus delivery vehicles.
GMF is the proud winner of the CAT Magazine “Motor Factor of the Year” 2010, 2011 & 2012.
